AIM High by Nathanael Siyoo Lee

The Associates of the HCM (Hot Chocolate Ministries) have been provided with a question:
“What does Leadership mean to you”

There were varieties of answers, including:
● “Leadership is something that helps guide others through a certain goal either internal or external improvements.” – Abigail, Vice President of HCM
● “Leadership is something to be taken as an example of. For example, leaders should be models that strive to be better.” – Alyssa, Treasurer of HCM
● “Leadership is being able to take responsibility for the people you guide.” – Justin, President of the HCM.

Pastor Joseph – a pastor that had served as a pastor for over a decade – believes that leadership is someone who knows who they are, knows what they should do, knows about their identity, and understands their role and responsibility.

He states that using that definition, anyone can be a leader, no matter what circumstances they have been through or whatever your personality.

He also teaches the associates of HCM on how to “Aim High.”

An example he gave them was about an Olympic runner in 1924 named Eric Ladel, who had trained for the 100m dash for an extremely long time, only for him to refuse to run the race because it was on a Sunday—for the reason that he was religious.

He instead decided to run the 400m dash, which he had never done before. But not only did he win a Gold medal, he would also break the World Record.

What Eric Ladel had done in this case was to “Aim high.”

Aiming High is to reach the pinnacle of a success, which you yourself define. This does not mean you have to be the best; it means to be the best version of yourself

However, there are 3 elements needed to “Aim High”:

  1. To envision your life beyond the now; envision past what is right in front of you.
  2. To make that vision a reality, you require discipline—to do the work necessary to progress towards your visioned future.
  3. Sustaining that discipline through character: the essential role of integrity.
    ○ You always collaborate and always will collaborate with others—it is a reality that not everything in the world revolves around you.
    ○ If you only possess the first two elements of aiming high, however—enacting a vision of a future through self discipline without integrity—you become what we call a “scammer.”
    ■ Finding the easy way out, which is not what you want to do when you want to aim high.
“God made me fast. And when I run, I feel His pleasure.” – Eric Ladell
